One of the easiest ways to secure funds is to send out one of our funding request letters. They kindly ask for financial support from parents, caregivers, administrators, district officials, or your PTA/PTO.
There is a wide range of government funding that can be used to purchase Scholastic Classroom Magazines. Whether you need supplements for Social and Emotional Learning, family engagement, ELL or something else entirely, you may be able to use government funds to cover the cost of your subscription.
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) provides states with federal funding to ensure all students receive a quality education. Our magazines are well-aligned with several Titles in ESSA, including Titles I, II, III and IV, described below.
Scholastic Classroom Magazines’ approach to building literacy and knowledge also meets ESSA’s Tier 2 (Level 4) Evidence-Based requirement, qualifying our magazines for most federal funding. Check out this recent report to learn more about magazines’ impact on education outcomes.
Magazines help all students, including at-risk learners, succeed through our engaging content, age-appropriate materials, differentiated reading levels, a blended learning model and dynamic digital tools such as videos, assessment quizzes and so much more.
Literacy Education for All, Results for the Nation (LEARN)
As part of your comprehensive literacy program, magazines offer the high-quality, age-appropriate print materials called for by this grant. We also provide ample teacher support materials, including ready-made lesson plans and differentiation strategies.
Many of our Early Childhood and Elementary magazines provide extra supports for English-language learners (ELLs) —Spanish speakers in particular, a sizeable and growing population across our country. Several magazines offer a complete Spanish translation in print or online, as well as Spanish language videos and activities. Many also provide a take-home letter to engage students’ Spanish-speaking caregivers and extend the magazines’ use at home.

Scholastic Classroom Magazines provide your students with a well-rounded education that reaches across curricula and leverages blended learning models. We take a cross-curricular approach to core subject areas in reading, math, social studies and science, as well as art, health and life skills. Our subscriptions also include a rich set of technology-based resources, including digital supports to differentiate instruction and spark lasting student interest.
State, Federal and Local grants are also available for targeted programs, such as Head Start for early-childhood interventions, in which a classroom magazine may be a valuable teaching tool. Magazines are versatile supplements for children at all levels—PreK through high school—and are designed to allow educators to make adjustments to meet the needs of students, while engaging their interests with fun and thought-provoking stories, activities and practice.
Parents, caregivers and community members are an excellent source of additional funding, especially for our affordable classroom subscriptions. A class of 25 first graders, for example, can receive a whole year of Scholastic News magazine for under $150.

Crowdfunding is one of the most popular ways for educators to fund their subscriptions. Most teachers are able to reach their funding goal within just 4 to 6 weeks!
