Stay on Track!
This top BMX racer shares what it takes to reach the finish line.
As You Read: Identify two things Camdyn does to race her best.
Whoosh! That’s a sound Camdyn Cole hears when she’s racing on her bike. Camdyn is a 9-year-old BMX star from Oklahoma. She likes feeling air blowing around her as she speeds over a hilly track filled with other racers.
Even with all she hears and feels on the track, Camdyn is always sure to focus on the goal ahead. For her, that goal is crossing the finish line first!

Family members introduced Camdyn to BMX two years ago. She fell in love with the sport.
Since then, Camdyn has finished first in many races. She’s even made the USA BMX Team, which has the top kid riders in America.
What’s Camdyn’s secret for success?
“BMX racing is a little like school,” she says. “You have to work hard and put in extra effort when you can.”
Camdyn’s extra effort has paid off. She was invited to the 2021 BMX World Championships to compete against kids from around the globe.

Stay in the Race
Camdyn says racing is like school in other ways too. It isn’t always a smooth ride. There are obstacles—like bumps and dips—on a BMX track. Sometimes other kids distract her.
Camdyn knows that it takes patience and practice to tackle each challenge.

Keep Looking Ahead
What happens if Camdyn doesn’t reach her goal?
“Same as when I don’t get a high grade in class,” she says. “I get frustrated.” But she talks with her coaches and parents to figure out how to do better next time.
Win or lose, Camdyn always congratulates the other racers.
“We all stop at the finish and fist-bump or slap each other’s hands,” she says.

Want to reach your goals? Try these three tips!
1. Be Prepared
Before class starts, make sure your pencil is sharpened and that your books and supplies are easy to find.
2. Have a Routine
A routine is a regular way of doing things. Make a checklist of the tasks you need to do. That will help you remember them.
3. Stay Focused
Try doing one task at a time. Find a quiet space to complete that task.
