When I grow up, I want to be a paleontologist. That’s a scientist who studies fossils. I’ve started training early!

In July 2020, I went hiking with my dad. We were in Horseshoe Canyon, near my house in Canada. On a hill, I saw something. I yelled, “Dad, you need to get up here!”

Four ancient bones were in the rock!

I wanted to pick up the bones, but I knew I might damage them. You’re not supposed to pick up fossils. If they’re in a rock, you should leave them and contact experts.

My dad and I sent pictures of the bones to the Royal Tyrrell Museum. I was pretty excited when we got an email back from a paleontologist. He said one of the bones was an arm bone from a hadrosaur. That’s a dinosaur that lived about 69 million years ago!

A team from the museum carefully dug up the bones. Over the next few months, they found more than 30 bones, all from the hadrosaur. It was just incredible.

My advice to kids is to get outdoors and explore as much as possible. You never know what you’re going to discover!
